From the beginning of human history until now, we have progressed, but are we still basically the same as far as basic human nature. Our needs, wants, and desires?

"Pete Ashly,
Human nature is the way we live and behave. The context is important, because human nature cannot be removed from our societal framework and our technological level of development. Seven billion humans living on this planet is not natural, except that the combined "complex" of biology, technology and resources that supports this bloom is based on evolution and natural laws. One cannot easily study medical or dietary interventions for humans because nobody is willing to be study and control groups in isolated conditions. Similarly human nature is not something to be found in isolation within the individuals.
The nature of the human brain to generate and use language means that humans operate as a hive mind. Language has been a huge part of evolutionary success at the tribe level, creating a context where a Meme will operate symbiotically and "power speaks to the people" to create united groups that can overwhelm less unified tribes. One can argue that the human mind is evolved for remote control, for responding to rhetoric and story, providing a foundation capacity for religious and political control.
At a biological level human's continue to evolve. Scientists track combined lineages of Neandertals, Denisovan and other branches of ancestors merging into the human genome. Blue Eyes Originated 10,000 Years Ago in the Black Sea Region and the rapid spread of this mutation says a lot about human evolution including sexual selection.
At a societal, technological and moral level humans are rapidly evolving. The "culture wars" in the United States show rapid adjustment in terms of acceptance of minorities and alternative lifestyles. Human values have changed tremendously in the last 200 years with new emphasis on non-violence, abolition of slavery and conservation of natural resources.
However, one can argue that to a large extent the evolution of the human hive mind "complex" is unconscious or out of our control. Technology does "what it wants" and in fact is a projection out of human DNA, just as we are a manifested projection out of human DNA."
It depends on what you think human nature is. Some people assume that everybody they meet wants to kill them, and that is true often enough to maintain their belief. Others believe that everybody they meet is good and honest, and that is true often enough to maintain their belief. So which of those is human nature? Very few things are common to all humans, but a great many things are common to all who live in the same culture. For example, in China you can not discard a gum wrapper. Chinese people are quite frugal and honest, so they will assume you dropped something you should save, and they will pick it up and return it to you.
So what exactly do you think human nature is? I bet it's whatever your culture has taught you to think it is.
Yes, when it comes to our needs, our wants, our desires, a human being is still the same. If not, the human being is a little worse than what he was. When life was not so advanced, the human being had little desires, his needs and wants were limited. In the modern material world, a human being has become a slave of his own desires, there are so many options, so many worldly pleasures and he has become so materialistic that he has forgotten his spiritual self. Therefore it is for a human being to stop and to realize the Truth of who he is and why he is here. We must go on a quest to understand that we are the Divine Soul. That is our ultimate goal, then we will be free from desires, from wants and from all the miseries of the world.
