Just wondering what it would be like(I cant have one they're too expensive and I'm not too sure if they're legal in my area)
By the way don't tell me anything about someone hurting one, that's cruel :(

I don't know anyone who has had one as a pet but I know someone who worked for a sea life centre and the octopus was mainly looked after by her. She also had partial responsibility for all kinds of other things. You'd have thought she'd have spoken most about the dolphins but it was nearly always something amazing the octopus had done. They're incredible creatures. Not really fit for pets (apart from with specialist owners) because they're so intelligent and need plenty of mental stimulus. I kind of like them a lot myself too.
She doesn't work there any more but she misses the octopus more than anything. She used to have to think up challenges to keep it stimulated and it was almost like a chess game. She'd hide something inside a screw-top jar or a maze so the octopus could see it but not immediately know how to get to it. It was worked out in just a couple of hours each time. Whatever she tried, the octopus worked it out. What she loved most was watching the intelligence at work, watching the octopus think, try things, disregard them, try something new, and eventually work it out.
I know a lot of credit goes to dogs and certain primates for their intelligence, but there are certain other animals that display an uncannily human intelligence. Octopuses are one. Certain members of the crow family are another. I love it that they're out there. It makes me feel that humans are closer to our animal cousins. And cousins we are. :)
Octopus can be very amazing and unique pets. They are among some of the more intelligent species. Having one as a pet would be awesome-I agree. They can learn to open jars and do tricks as well. Some of them can also camouflage. Who needs a dog....wait, actually, I quite like dogs..
Sounds really cool! I never really took having one as a pet seriously as I know they do need lots of care and attention. Does she like working with the octopus?
