I have been working for a family for 16 mos on a weekly basis. I have always done an excellent job and never had a complaint. This past week I went to clean 1 of 3 toilets and almost gagged when I lifted the toilet seat. It was plastered with feces as long as my hand all hard and dried up like it happened several days ago. I couldn't bring myself to clean it. I have never refused anything but to do this toilet seat. I left a note saying I'm not sure if your even aware but the upstairs toilet seat is very soiled and I did not clean it as I feel that should have been cleaned right away and now has to be soaked and scrubbed.
Needless to say I received a very long rude and obnoxious email from the woman. Started out with how very disappointed she was and that cleaning toilets is part of my duties. Carried on and on how as my also being a nanny for infants/young children that she's sure I have seen far worse changing diapers. That when I clean houses this is expected and part of my duties. Now because I refused this 1 thing 1 time she's not sure if we can move forward.
I feel she's missing the point. I would be so embarrassed to let anybody see it let alone expect them to clean it. I feel she was inconsiderate in leaving it for me to clean.
What if 1 of the kids crapped on the floor is that my job to clean it? It's bad enough I have to wipe feces off the walls. I don't know of anybody who would want feces messes anywhere in there home for days because the housekeeper will clean it when she gets here.

To me there's a fine line between normal dirty toilets and disgusting toilets. I wanna know if I was in the wrong or if she's overreacting and blew this out of proportion because she too didn't wanna clean it.
I spend 5 hrs per week cleaning her house top to bottom. Now correct me if I'm wrong wouldn't it have been easier for her to say, I wasn't aware the toilet was that dirty, I apologize and I took care of it. Or is it easier to start all over again finding an excellent trustworthy housekeeper because you blame me for something you should have cleaned right away? I myself would have cleaned it, apologized and been embarrassed.
Now she has created a much worse situation then there was to begin with. This makes me not wanna work for her anymore. I would really like your feedback and perhaps similar situations.
