Hi. My Syrian hamster had babies and they are 9 days old. Since yesterday, mom hamster started coming out of the nest more often and I find her sleeping in the corner of the cage. Is it normal ? Does this mean she abandoned the babies or she thinks it's OK to leave the babies a little while since the babies are getting older? Eventually mom hamster goes back into the nest and babies seems to be growing (somer are bigger than the others) but I'm still worried why she spends time away from the babies.

I'm no expert on hamsters but I think rhombus a situation much like what rabbits would do. Rabbits only come at night to feed their babies Yonkers them safe from predators. I think his may be what your hamster is doing. I would just leave the babies and mother alone until they are able to breed to avoid getting the mother or any of the girls pregnant.
