I am writing an article. Is there any difference between "it is found or it was found"... or "the data are collected or were collected". As fas as I know, while writing an article it is best use present tense. Check two examples, are they same or different? : 1- It is found out that servant leadership competences and diversity management skills are at medium level 2- It was found out that servant leadership competences and diversity management skills are at medium level

the abstract:
The data in the study (are/were) collected through two scales which have reliability and validity. The sample of the study is consisted of 262 persons. It (was/is) found out that servant leadership competences and diversity management skills are at medium level. According to the participant’s perceptions, servant leadership competences of managers show significant differences according to types of duty, age variables. Diversity management skills of managers show significant differences according to gender, types of duty, age, occupational service year and the number of employees in the organization

So first of all, you would say the date was found because you can't use a present tense word "is" with a past tense word "found." Which means it would be "the data was collected" because data is a singular noun which means you have to have a singular verb and "were" is a plural past tense verb. It would also be "it was found in the study" because you already did the study and you can't change to a present tense in the middle of a research paper
