We're moving to the Portland, OR area in late May. My job is in Vancouver, WA and my fiance's job is in the Hawthorne area of Portland. I will have a higher income and there's no income tax if we live in Vancouver plus a lower cost of living, but we've heard the commute can be terrible from V to P and we are excited about experiencing Portland. We're in our mid 20's and would prefer to live in Portland, but we're having a hard time justifying the higher cost of housing and giving up the no income tax of Washington. Does anyone have any advice on where we should live and why? If you say Portland, is it possible to find reasonably priced rentals in the Hawthorne area or do you have other recommendations? Thanks!!!
