Multiplayer in minecraft is not split screen, all the players are on screen at the same time much like COD for example. And yes, while I don't know for certain, I am almost positive that there will be a multiplayer option as it is one of the most common aspects of modern console gaming.

Just heads up, you're better off getting the PC version as it has far far FAR more options for modding the game and the Realms feature (multiplayer) is 100% no problems. Of course if you don't have a PC then, yeah, console...
