... would be shiny when polished. Any suggestions?

Some rocks simply don't shine. Others take time. Keep trying! Although if you get nowhere with rocks that are supposed to shine, make sure you aren't filling the tumbler too much and make sure you are cleaning everything after each step. If you leave grit behind, this will stop the rocks getting shiny.
I tried lapidary too and I'll be honest, I got nowhere with it. It was just a lot of grinding noise in the night and I never got an end result. I feel exactly the same as you. When they are shiny, they look so beautiful. I was immensely drawn to this. It just didn't work out for me so I can't advise. I really do hope it works out for you, though.
Im not familiar with lapidary (? if I spelled it correctly). Did you try and shave them with a
saw ? I am going to try tumbling rough crystals next...have you tried that also ? Thank you again for your answers .
I've never tried it with crystals but I'd love to. It sounds like they'll come out even better than the stones.
One thought: did you ever consider varnishing the stones so they always keep the wet look and feel as smooth as glass?
Yes i have . not sure what to use though . What would you varnish them with ? Polyurethane ? Clear nail polish ? Thank you for trying to help.
Thank you very much for your response to my question. I think I did everything correctly though. They look so beautiful when they are wet. I wish there was something I could apply to them to make them stay that "wet look". I appreciate any recommendations:)
