no thats not normal but its done all the time wether we like it or not he should have excused himself that would have been normal

Usually that is done when they feel comfortable around the person they are talking to. I have friends that are on the toilet while in a call with myself or even other people. It shows a sense of trust and it means they are not embarrassed around you. It's a good thing! However, if you are disgusted, you can politely ask him not to do so.

While I agree that it's kind of gross, there are people that are quite comfortable going to the bathroom while on the phone. I'm not one of them. And I always request that people not go to the bathroom when talking to me. 

Personally, it makes me uncomfortable.
