We have it in the living room, being used as a entertainment center, but I'm pretty sure that is not it's proper use. I would post a picture if I could but since I don't know how, I will try to describe it. It's much like a desk, or a work bench. It stands a little above my waist (I'm 6 foot tall), is about 6 feet long, 2 feet deep. It has a solid wood top, 2 cupboards on either side that reach the floor. The cupboards have locks on them and open to reveal shelves. It has a big opening between the 2 cupboards, much like a desk with a drawer above the opening. It's definitely old. And I believe it used to have a piece of wood that was attached to the back, that came up a little higher than the top, and ran the whole length of the back. I don't think I'm explaining this very well. I would call it a desk, if it wasn't for the height. It's just too tall to be a desk. I want to call it a buffet, or bureau. I would call it a vanity but it doesn't have legs or a mirror. Somebody I know called it a sideboard, but when I looked up a sideboard I found pictures of a credenza type piece. Certainly not the same. Help. I'm ready to chop it up and call it firewood

It is called a credenza, buffet, or sideboard. If you go to images.google.com you get the same pictures for each of those words. If it had shelves above, it would be called a hutch.
Now please explain why people preface a question with "google" instead of googling it themselves.
I didn't mean to toss attitude at you, it's only that I wonder why so many questions start with "google -". As far as I know, those three words all refer to the same pieces, which can be anything that is long and not above waist high.
Because that's what the site did. I just didn't change it. I did google it. Tried lots, didn't get a straight answer from Google. Now please explain why somebody would toss attitude at me for asking a perfectly reasonable question? FYI. A credenza is not the same as a buffet.
