... story, here's what i do know. They are in bad shape, dull, with extremely cloudy film all over, scratched, ect. When the house was purchased, was told they were imported maple and to clean only with water/vinegar mixture.Maple? I really don't know. The house was built in 2000. The finish was kind of glossy looking and shiny, so i was convinced it was sealed with poly, after researching some and thinking about it, i thought no, it must be a wax and my method of cleaning over the past 4 years has slowly caused the wax to wear down and that's why its dull. After further inspection I can see that some of the scratches have gone all the way thru the surface finish and are super shiny underneath, also i can scratch those places with my fingernail and it just flakes right off in tiny pieces. But who the heck uses shellac anymore. So, I am seriously stumped!! I don't know what it is, hopefully someone who has knowledge in this field can help me out?? Thanks, cameron
