Hello. Firstly, I was diagnosed with an intellectual disability when i was about 13 or 14 months old due to a severe, extended fever from pneumonia. I have come a long way, but there is a lot that i still struggle with, specially socially. I have a long history of throat and tonsil infections and am getting my tonsils taken out on October 6. I work 3 afternoons a week at a daycare, cleaning. Every single time I need time off either for a vacation or for medical reasons, even calling in sick, it becomes a challenge. A couple times in the past, when I was going away or needed an afternoon off for a doctor appointment, I actually messaged my boss on Facebook, but I feel like it would be better or look better if I tell her in person. My boss is very good, but I have a terrible time asking for a day off or a week off. When I get my tonsils out, I will need at least 2 weeks off to recover. I was wondering, how soon should I tell my boss and what should I say to her? Thanks.
