If it is noon in Greenwich, England and you go 1,000 miles east, it is 1:00 PM there. And so on, every thousand miles, until you get to 12,000 miles and there it is tomorrow. Now go back to Greenwich and go west. 1,000 miles - 11:00 AM, and so on to 12,000 miles, where it is yesterday. But that is the same place we just said was tomorrow. So that is the International Date Line.
