G'day everyone! Can I put 160mm round speaker in my front door vw 74 beetle? Cheers?

Technically yes, but its location might make it prone to damage, plus you'd need to damage the door to mount it. Finally there is no conduit for cables from the body of a car to any of the doors so it would either need an external power source and audio source (a battery and wi-fi amplifier) or you'd have trailing cables which themselves would be prone to damage, exacerbated by the opening and closing of the door.

In short, you'd save yourself a lot of problems by mounting the speaker on something within the main body of the car, and preferably something that doesn't move and that can be easily wired.

Apart from anything else, if you're looking for a stereo or surround sound effect, mounting transversely (i.e. side on) is probably not your best bet to achieve that.

Thanks mate!
I was thinking...do you mean put the speaker next to the back seats?
I thought about mounting the speaker On the rear door even if there are not door anyway, what do you think?
Cheers man

Yeah, back seats are fine or roof, dashboard, glove box. If it's a woofer, it doesn't even need line of sight so you can put it in the boot. For a tweeter or mid-range it's better if there isn't much obstructing the path between it and your ears. Passenger footwell or just behind the handbrake are other good options. If it's a covered unit (like a hi-fi speaker), you can get away with putting it nearly anywhere. If it's just a cone, it's best to keep it out of harm's way (or protect it).

Oh, one last comment. If you don't mind damaging your roof lining, I once saw a guy mount four speakers in his roof (one per corner) and put a large woofer behind the back seats. It was easy because the wiring for the roof lights was all up there. He covered the speakers with gauze and it actually looked really good.

I don't know the technical details of his setup (i.e. what he sent to each speaker) but he got one of the best surround sound effects I've ever heard. If you closed your eyes, you could picture where each instrument and singer were and could even sense them moving around the stage on live performances.

You're really helpful!
Yeah The rear door panel is a good idea and solution.
Cheers mate!
