From mib2 there is this thing called the nuerilyzer or something like that pls tell me how it works?

the thingy of mejig is from men in black 2 from the book all i know is it erases memory... in the book it says that you will die if you are the victim of it... but my friend says that in the movie no one dies from it. so please help important school assignment!!!!
