For metallic and ionic bonds, which is stronger and why?

Ionic bonds are much stronger than metallic bonds.

In ionic compounds, electrons are tightly held by the ions, and the ions cannot move translationally relative to each other, and in metallic bond electrons are free to move and are not associated with individual cations(the valence orbitals are delocalized over the entire metal lattice).
