My husband and I borrowed about $1500 from his uncle back in June 2013. This money went towards paying our mortgage since we were having a hard time financially. Since then we offered to pay the money back to him in cash in March 2014 but it was refused by his uncle and in exchange for the borrowed money his uncle asked for him to work on repairs he had to make around his house. My husband spent an entire summer nearly every weekend working on his house (painting rooms, installing lighting, refinishing decks, exterior power washing... the list goes on) In my husbands opinion the work he has done to his uncles house far over exceeds the amount of money borrowed to us back in June 2013. His uncle has a different opinion about the debt and thinks my husband still owes him at least $800. I am not sure what to do about this anymore since we they can not come to an agreement. There was never a signed contract regarding the money borrowed nor a record or amount each job would have been to pay off the balance owed. What should we do?
