Our four year old German Short Haired Pointer only has eyes for for my husband, myself, and a ball. We take him to a local huge open field dog park because to run his energy out in our backyard would take hours. One of his many trips back with the ball, I noticed a huge drop of blood on my shoe. After looking at him, I realized it was one of his back paws. Brought him home, cleaned it off with cool water and Dr. Bronner's (very very very mild organic soap). There is not a cut but the pad looks raw - kind of like when we get blisters and the thin skin rubs off and exposed skin underneath is red and painful. Our local 24 emergency care vet is a service where you leave a voicemail and someone will call you back - we are in a pretty remote location so just "popping over" to a vet (it is Sunday evening here) is not an option. Any suggestions on course of action?
