Does my sims game(sims 2 pet stories)carry on when I close the game ?

Details:

when i saved and left everything was normal .Now most of my sims have interactions with this "mystery sim" and all of the relationships have progressed and some have been majorly messed up .Is there a way to stop this from happening and/or revert to the original save file i made before i closed the game for the first time

It shouldn't progress unless it's an online game, but you can go to settings and there should be something like "puppet" or something, you can adjust your Sim's free-will level there, and they shouldn't do stuff unless you are controlling them.

Thanks i found the free-will setting and when i disabled it they it stopped progressing when i tried a few tests .Not sure why it did it in the first place since it's offline but oh well ,i'm gonna reset and play with free-will off
