In the Bible, it says God backed Israel as a people, Is that still true? And what about the other people who believe in him from other countries?

Chapter and verse please. I am not aware of any such statement.
God is the God of rightness. If the people do right, they get the results that come from doing right. If they do wrong they get results that come from doing wrong. For example if you kick a curb your foot will hurt because that is the natural result of kicking a curb. God tells people not to do stupid things like that. For example God told the Israelites not to have a king, not to be like the nations. The people prospered greatly for about a hundred and fifty years and then they demanded a king, so they could be like the nations. After that they were conquered, just like the nations.
God is not a crabby old man who lives in the sky and smites people. He does not "back" anybody. He gives people choices and then tells them which is the best choice. People usually think they have a better idea. When they see their neighbors living the good life, because they did things right, they yell "NOT FAIR!" And they go to war. So don't blame that on God.
Initially the nation of Israel was God's chosen nation, but according to the article - Does Bible Prophecy Point to the Modern State of Israel it states:
In the year 33 C.E., the fleshly nation of Israel lost its claim to be God’s chosen nation when it rejected Jehovah’s Son, the Messiah. The Messiah himself put it this way: “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the killer of the prophets and stoner of those sent forth to her . . . Look! Your house is abandoned to you.” (Matthew 23:37, 38) Jesus’ statement came true when in 70 C.E., Roman legions destroyed Jerusalem along with its temple and priesthood. But what was to become of God’s purpose to have a “special property out of all other peoples, . . . a kingdom of priests and a holy nation”?—Exodus 19:5, 6.
Acts 10:34 & 35 At this Peter began to speak, and he said: “Now I truly understand that God is not partial,l 35 but in every nation the man who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.m

We must not go by a scripture literally because scriptures were written centuries ago with the particular objective of communicating a particular thing. And therefore, blindly following a scripture is like the blind leading the blind, we will get nowhere. God has given us intelligence, God lives in the temple of our heart, the kingdom of God is within. We need to stop, interpret scriptures. We need to understand who we are and why we are here, we need to ask questions about God. We realize God, we become one with God. That is our ultimate goal to realize we are the Spirit, we are the Soul, then we will experience God everywhere, in everything. We will not restrict God to one country or one religion, we will see God all the time, everywhere, in everything.
