Does edgecombe nc electricity company have the right to have permission to my backyard at all times?

Question

They want access to my backyard cause the meter is behind my house but I have valuable items in the backyard that's why it's locked up and they want to always be able to go in. Can I refuse ?

I would try and work see either to talk to someone about it  tell them why you have it locked  up to begin with.That doesnt work try and get a storage unit or a back yard pod to lock up with the key.
