Just wondering if there were any secret society type groups that just did science and stuff in times like the Renaissance period or the medieval ages.
Does anyone know of any (secret) groups of scientists/alchemists throughout history?

Do you know what "science" is? The concept has grown slowly over the last 400 or so years. In ancient times, only human logic was respected and students studied the opinions of famous philosophers, not basic knowledge. For over two thousand years, young people studied Aristotle, not science. Galileo was the first to challenge the idea that observation was more important than the officially approved opinion. Even Isaac Newton fudged his data about gravity because it did not agree with his theory.

Science is not self supporting. For a very long time, bright students were shuttled into the church so they could have an income while they pursued their studies. That is why so many discoveries came from monks and priests.
The secret societies were craftsman guilds. The famous "Baghdad Battery" was probably a trade secret held by the metal workers in that area. But they were not scientists.
