Yes, you are overreacting. You started it by being sarcastic about the special weekend being an engagement.
You were confrontive and sarcastic how would you expect him to respond.
What if he had planned to propose and you were sarcastic about it and that sarcasm just blew his romantic plan to pieces and hurt his feelings?
Seems to me the two of you should have a serious talk and find out if you are even on the same page or time frame. If not then its a good time to decide if you both want different things and if so have a mutually friendly parting of the ways.
When you said that to boyfriend he probably felt that you didn't want to marry him, depending on how you said it, and he said that to hide the fact that he might have actually did want to propose to you so he wouldn't be as hurt. But it just depends on the way you said it, and his facial expression.
