Do real estate websites provide enough information to make good purchase or rent decisions?

No, you have to look at the property and the records. This book has been the basic text for the business since 1969:

You need to absolutely look at the property yourself. Get reports organised about proposed building actions near by that are planned in the future and so on. Real estate people want to sell properties, they don’t necessarily tell you potential negative details volunterily so do your own research!
