Do men really prefer skinny women, and if no, what would they like to see in their partners? Thanks?

I can't speak for all men, but I'll just give my opinion.
You said 'skinny' so I assume you actually mean skinny and not thin.
Skinny women are just as unattractive as 'fat' women.
The problem with that is, not that we guys think, that we just want a hot woman, but rather, that we want someone who is healthy.
Being obese lets us already know, that you are going to have health problems because of that.
Being skinny is the same.
Just have bodyweight, that is healthy and normal.
It's fine if you are slightly underweight, or a bit chubby, as long as it is not concerning your health.
If a guy would tell to workout and lose some weight, than it's either, that he's a douche, or that he's actually worried about you.
And one little thing, yes, guys might feel attracted to thin women, but that's all there is, a tiny bit of attraction.
A guy will not think more than "Damn, she's hot." and 5 minutes later he'll have forgotten about her.
A guy wouldn't 'usually' think about starting a loving and caring relationship with a woman, just because she's thin or whatever.
(In all likeliness, a guy wouldn't even be able to show true love for someone, he dates out of such trivial reasons.)
Anyway, I hope I don't digress.
Things I expect of my partner are:
She respects me.
She is capable of managing her own life.
She has things she likes besides me.
She is 'not' doubting me on every occasion.
She is trying to contribute to my happiness.

That's just my opinion, but I hope it helped.
