I was arrested while driving a rental car. My license was expired. Police took possession of the car and searched it. My rental contract with the company was for just 6 days. The company just charged me $2,000 - I'm guessing for the time the police had the car in their possession. Do I owe these charges to the company?

Probably best to ask a lawyer this question. I'm guessing yes, you will have to pay as you hired the car and you had the responsibility to return it on the day agreed upon. If you fail to do so (for whatever reason) then I suppose you would have to pay a penalty or extended charges. But ask a lawyer.
.....because a rental company cannot (shouldn't) give you a car on an expired licence. That was their mistake.
