I'm in a weird position right now were I'm trying to work full time and attend school full time; the goal is to get an apartment with my fiance (who is waiting until next semester/year to re-enroll). It's entirely possible to do at minimum wage in the Boston area, provided we can work as close to full time as possible.
So, as anyone would do, I applied to a bunch of jobs. I've gotten one offer (I start Friday) and an interview that may or may not result in a second interview (and potential employment).
If this second job comes through (or if any of the other jobs I've applied to, honestly), I'll want to quit the one I was just hired into. The job offer I received was for a small business that is quite difficult for me to commute to (about an hour on a good day). The management doesn't feel very organized, and I'd be mostly working alone in an off-season for the company. It could be a very good job... but I'm worried about the commute, and about getting low hours. This second job would be within walking distance, and would definitely give me full time hours and, allegedly, they like to hand our raises quite frequently.
So if I do find another, better job within the next two weeks time, do I still give two weeks notice to my current employer? All of these jobs I applied to before I was hired here, so they don't think I'm currently employed and can start immediately. I doubt I'll get a new job offer before I finish training, but if I'm still fairly new, how do I politely quit the job? Are there consequences to a simple quit-by-email?
