I work in an office where we are supposed to have two on hand to cover calls.
My boss has been failing to get this in place. I have to finish on time in order to get home for the kids as my wife then goes to work. I worked with no cover yesterday and it was very busy. My boss only decided to help out in the last ten minutes. When my shift finished, I went home. I start early every day and dont take tea breaks though I am entitled. When I got in today, I received an email asking why I left on time and why I did not tell him that I needed to finish on time..? As far as I am aware, I do not need permission to leave at the end of my shift. Am I wrong? Is this man the ass that I think he is?
Do I have to stay behind at work and finish everything even though my shift has ended?

You should be able to finish on time if it requires staying over you would think they would let you know Did all the work get done?yea you shouldn't have to ask to leave early you would think that the boss would appreciate everything you do but you shouldn't have to ask to leave on time you should ask for a better wage if you end up staying I see no reason to ask to leave on time.
