have had my 3 cats for 6 years. They were given to me when they were 6 weeks old. A neighbor found them abandoned and didn't want them. I love them dearly, I have had them longer than I have known my husband! Yesterday our one year old daughter was diagnosed with a cat allergy. She breaks out in a rash, and gets red itchy eyes. The dr said I have to get rid of my cats in order for my daughter to have relief. I love my child more than anything and of course I will do whatever I need to do for her to be well But I am heartbroken and desperately seeking any alternative to having to find new homes for my cats, or worse, take them to a shelter . Does anyone have any advice or has anyone else had this happen and found a solution ?

That's hard because even if you make them outdoor cats only, they would not understand why Mommy isn't letting them come inside the house. But I think that is your only option...to let them live outside, and not allow them to come inside your house. That should be sufficient to prevent allergies for your daughter. I have 2 cats, and one of them actually prefers to spend most of her time outside.
They won't get lost. Cats have been known to trek for miles to get back home, if somehow separated from their owners. (I don't know how they do it). My cat lounges around outside, but always comes back to her food bowl. If a male is not neutered, it may be more likely to roam, but once again, always knows how to get home.
Thank you for your answer. I never even thought of making them outdoor only cats; that is a good idea and definitely worth a shot! I am only afraid because they have never been outdoors since I've had them, except for vet trips. Would they wander too far from home and get lost? Or maybe even stolen. It is a frightening thought. But to be able to keep my fur babies I think that it is a risk I may have to take. Thank you again!
