I want to become a dentist once I graduate, but I keep coming across posts on social media saying they have a high suicidal rate and it is making me I guess you would say second guess my career plans. I would love to help people be proud of their smiles but I do not want to end up in a bad state... I know I should not listen, but sometimes I wonder if I am making the right decision.
Do dentist really have a higher suicidal rate, if they do why?

You are not your job.
If you are predisposed to depression and concealment and don't have proper support, it might happen. It might happen if you're a famous actor or musician with a loving family - heard of chester bennington, robin williams?
If you love your occupation, it may give you some sense of purpose. It matters not what kind.
Should those slumps occur, it is up to you to get help, and make a change in lifestyle. That could mean taking a new path - I've once read a recommendation to do so once every 7 years, when reaching mastery of the trade.
It's normal to have doubts, but don't permit fear to make the big decisions for you.
I agree with the poster above, dentists may or may not have higher suicide rate, but that does not mean every dentist commits suicide. It has to do with your mental health and not your occupation. Don't let that stop you from studying what you love. I believe if you have a job you enjoy that will help prevent becoming depressed. :-)
Thank you :)
Thank you very much! :)
