My nephew has been living with my wife and I for about 6 months . It seems like whenever we have to “scold” him over something he answers questions that should be a “no” with a “yes.”
For example, “are you going to run down the hallway again?” This might be a typical question after putting him in time out. But instead of saying no he answers yes. However, if I phrase the question like “are you going to stop running down the hallway?” I also get a yes. Does he understand the lesson we’re trying to teach him or is he just going through the motions ?
He can answer questions like “do you want a snack” with a yes or no just fine so I’m not sure if he understands or if it’s maybe a type of defiance?
Do 3 year olds typically know the difference between yes and no when answering a question?
