Dish - If I get a new receiver will I lose all my recorded movies and programs I have?

If your programs are not recorded on media that you store in your own house, they are not yours. Whether you can get them depends on whether the company wants to be nice to you. For example, amazon.com "sells" ebooks, which you can read any time on your Kindle, but they never leave Amazon's servers. If Amazon has a squabble with the publisher, they have a reputation of blocking that publisher's works, even though you supposedly own those copies, and they do not refund your money either. The same is true of "safe" deposit boxes: banks occasionally sell precious metals on deposit and leave the customers to figure out what to do about it. Since there is no record of precious metals being there, the customer has no recourse. The only way to win is not to play.
