I'm renting my own place for the first time, and I'm just slightly confused by some terminology. In the places I'm looking at, they say "shared, 1 bedroom" or "shared, 2 bedrooms". This confuses me. I'm guessing shared means that the general accommodations - kitchen, bath - are "shared", but who do I share with if it's 1 bedroom? If there were 2 bedrooms, I'd understand that I'd be sharing with whoever is sleeping in that other bedroom. But if it's only 1, and I'm the person living in it, who exactly am I sharing with?

I would say it means the apartment is shared (kitchen, lounge, maybe bathroom) and 1 bedroom is available. Or 2 bedrooms are available. Sometimes they just rent out each room to a different renter and the people don’t necessarily know each other beforehand. I don’t think you would share the actual bedroom. But send them an email to clarify before you go ahead. :-)
