Hi, I am owed money by someone and they refuse to pay, just wondering if it is legal to take something of value from them to recover the money I've lost? I stated very clearly when I need the money by and they refuse to pay up.

The answer is no you cannot steal something to get your money back.
Do you have a written paper saying they borrowed the money and would repay it?
Do you have a video on your phone that shows the person borrowing the money and saying they will pay it back?
Do you have witnesses who saw the person borrow the money and promise to repay it and would be willing to tell the police or judge?
If you have proof you can take them to small claims court or whatever the equivalent is in Australia and sue them for the money.
Without proof it's your word against their word that any money was ever borrowed or lended and you can go to jail for theft. You would be breaking the law no matter what they owe you. If you have proof see a lawyer on your legal rights. Perhaps a letter from the lawyer would get repayment started.
