Is it really necessary to stop watering watermelons 1 to 2 weeks in advance of harvest to make them sweeter? My son-in-law waters right up to time of harvest, and I stop watering 2 weeks before harvest. His Crimson Red's were just as sweet as the one's I grew. Explain this to me.
