I strongly encourage you to refuse to buy a car with payments. A car that old is just not worth the cost of repairs to keep it on the road, and you are talking about paying twice that much in finance charges. Either walk and save your money or buy a car that you can pay cash for, then don't do any repairs; gas and oil only, and the first time it needs a repair, sell it and buy another car that doesn't need a repair right away. That allows you to save the money that otherwise would have been spent on interest, so you can pay cash for a new car after a while.

I suggest you see what the taxis and police are driving and look for one of those models. That way you get a car with air conditioning, smooth ride, and will last for a year or two and cost less than you would spend on repairs for some other used car.
