Agriculture extension is a way for professionals in the agriculture industry to provide assistence to landowners and farmers. I know around where I live in MO, our extension office provides soil and water testing for a small fee. These test allow you to test your water to see if it is potable, and allows you to figure out the correct amount of fertilizer to apply to the land (saving you money.)
