Could I take a deep breath of nitrogen gas with no terminal side effects?

Occasionally an oxygen bottle gets filled with nitrogen, so it happens that several people have done exactly that. Typically a person falls asleep with one or two breaths. If the mask is not removed, they never wake up, but it takes twenty minutes or so to die. Nitrogen is not toxic. The air you breathe is 80% nitrogen. But a person suffocates from lack of oxygen.
