Last year I saw my doctor asking whether it was normal for me not to have started my period at this late stage. He found it odd that I hadn't started and he referred me to the hospital to have a scan. Bizarrely, a week before my scan I started my period. Now I am 16 and a half years old and I started my period a year ago. Ever since I started they have been very far between, about every 7 weeks. I know it can take a while for your body to get into the cycle though. However, I have always found it strange how late I started, especially since the average is to start is around 12/13 and my mum and both my grandmas were this age when they started. It's odd because I've always been tall and quite developed so you'd have thought I'd have started at this age too. At the moment, my period is 2 weeks late. I've been getting a lot of discharge and I keep thinking that it will happen tomorrow but it never does. I wondered if this was normal and natural for me or could there be more behind the facts. Is it too early a stage to be judging whether I have polycyclic ovaries? Should I let my body try to get into a regular cycle?
