Composite dental filling or ceramic inlay?

Composite fillings are the most popular filling material in America but they may not be the best due to the amount they shrink, their inability to resist decay and their frequent need for replacement. Many dentist and patients alike prefer composite due to its aesthetic attributes but they overlook the fact that composite for filling may only last on average 5.7 years. Composite fillings typically need to be replaced much sooner than its competitor, amalgam, due to recurrent decay. Post-operative hot/cold sensitivity is also a very common issue and composite is much more expensive than amalgam. Composite works great for aesthetic and bonding qualities but that is the extent of its positive features.
