OK so as I understand it, an Xfinity modem sends out 2 signals, one called xfinitywifi that anyone can connect to and 1 called something else that only the owner with the password can connect to. However to use the xfinitywifi connection you really need an Xfinity account and need to input your username and password on the opening webpage or else you can't get past that webpage. My sister has an Xfinity account, and my neighbor had one too, so I just used my sisters password to connect to my neighbors xfinitywifi, but my neighbor recently moved, leaving me without internet. My question is, if I buy an Xfinity modem, will it automatically send out that xfinitywifi connection that I can connect to, or do I need to buy a subscription service from Comcast for my xfinity modem?

No, you will need to pay for your own subscription. Your neighbors who have moved are no longer paying for their subscription, so their house will no longer be putting off a WiFi signal. In fact, the cable provider (Comcast) probably took back their equipment. And you probably can't buy an Xfinity router. Most cable providers rent them to you as an additional fee on your cable bill (you can probably save money by purchasing your own router/modem hybrid). Let me know if you need any more help.
