I plan to create something but, I can't get poster paper. I have cardboard, but its brown so I want to paint it. If I were to draw something on the cardboard, how would it look? Would the paint crack?

No, this should be totally fine. Because If you paint over the cardboard and wait until it has dried up, you basically form a sort of layer on top of the cardboard, so now you are just drawing over the layer which should be just fine...
