im a 14 year-old freshmen in high school. im thinking about joininig a weight training club, but my friend said it stunts growth when satrting at a young age.

It really depends on how much weight training you do. A few hours a week isn't going to hurt (in fact, it's probably beneficial) but if you're planning on training 3-4 hours every day, then yes, this can impact the natural growing cycle of your body.
The body adapts to you what do with it, especially when you're young. So if you're doing excessive weight training every day, then your body will put more development into muscle mass instead of body height.
