I know that for sure that there is acrobatic rock'n'roll as a kind of dance. I think rock'n'roll could also be a dancing style. Check out the dancing in "Grease".
In definition you should be able to dance to any kind of music, but (as a amater dancing since year of 4) I konw there are some genres of rock that are almoust imposible to dance on. Also there are dance styles like ballet in which you can dance to rock music. Maybe you should also check out musical "Hair".
When Rock 'n' Roll began, it was known the best for the teenagers. The mid-50s was the era called "The Rise of the Teenager". And what did these kids do, listening to Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley? They danced and said, "SHAKE, RATTLE AND ROLL!"
Or you can just strike crazy, energetic and awesome moves like Iggy Pop; trust me, it's a hella fun.
