Of course. Human emotions are actually triggered by a part of our brain; and when normal chemical reactions in it are interrupted, it can result in varied (and sometimes) uncontrollable emotions. It's not your friend's fault to feel that way. Just be there for him/her and all will be well. If the issue doesn't seem t subside though, he/she might need professional counseling or help.
There probably is an underlying reason why your friend feels depressed. Sometimes people don't realize something is bothering them for awhile, it takes sometime for it to come to the surface.
Either that or your friend is trying to avoid an issue, or act like something isn't bothering him/her and it could possibly be making them depressed.
Usually talking it out with someone, even another friend helps. Bottling it up is the absolute worst thing you can do.
Sadly so many people today suffer from depression, in fact someone very close to me as well suffers from depression. We would love to just extract all of those bad feelings and just throw them away so they can be happy, but sadly we can't. Many times ones who suffer the most from depression are really caring people and that's why it can hurt us so much to see them going through there problem. But one thing that has helped the person close to me is reading and getting an understanding of the Bible. They said after reading many of the accounts in the Bible, it has helped them to cope with some of the problems of their depression. Notice I said cope and not solve, because the things that take place in the world non of us can solve but we learn to cope with the things that go on around us. Just like our friends if we don't have the strength to cope with what's going on in this world we all could easily fall into a depressive state. So yes one can be depressed for no reason at all, but there is something that can help us all to cope with the problems of our life if we are willing to read and accept. I hope this helps you and your friend. If you have anymore questions go to www.jw.org.
i don't believe that someone would feel depressed without any reason... why?... just as easy as this... why did ur car break down when u conducted a thorough maintenance this morning??... why did u loose when u practiced day and night for that match??.. why did u fail the exam when u studied so hard and made reviews countless times??.. everything seems to be perfect right?.. but!!! there's gotta be one thing that went wrong somewhere, it could be b4 - during - or after.... if it's not ur conscious mind then it's gotta be the subconscious that's triggering it... :)) for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction... o.O??... i think newton's 3rd law of motion is what u need XD...
First of all I hope that your friend is doing much better. When we think about depression, it can be a very tricky situation with each person that deals with it. For some it may be certain things that trigger the way they feel, for others what causes them to feel that way may not be associated with anything at all. But if we look at our world's condition and all that we are exposed to through music, tv, media, and magazines wouldn't you say that we all could be depressed if we focus to much on any of these things. The Bible even talked about ones in the first century that battled depression because of the conditions they lived in, so with the way the world is today it would only make sense that ones would have that problem now. Now although the Bible did speak of the depressed souls, it also gives relief for those ones as well, and that's the real way that we fight depression. I hope this helps to answer any questions your friend had.
