Can people cry a river?

In reality, no, a human can not cry his/her eyes out and create a real river. There is an expression "Cry a river, build a bridge and get over it". It just tells the person that the speaker doesn't want to hear complaining or any upset emotions. The speaker just wants you to stop being sad about an issue. Other then that, the quote is just a saying.
