I'm fourteen and will eventually want kids. I do admit that I am obese and has even lost over 20 pounds since August. But over the past couple years, I noticed that my period was getting fainter and lasted less than two days. Now it's at the point to where I haven't had a period in the last four months. Can being obese during teen years cause me to be infertile?

First of all, see a gynecologist about you periods or current lack of, there are countless reasons for irregular periods. If your perceived obesity is behind the irregularity, then your obesity could be a factor in future pregnancy, though barring some severe present disease process, there are multiple means to restore regularity. And, that can differ from woman to woman, and can also change for no real apparent reason during your full term of fertility. However, obese women can have just as many pregnancies as the skinny types, you just need a good. loving, fertile man. So from the information provided I can't foresee you having problems. Losing excess weight is always a good idea, for anyone's sake. Keep up the good work, see a doc, then go have as many babies as you can support. It was an important question!
