A ferrous metal turns so a magnetic field travels its long dimension. A non-ferrous metal turns so a magnetic field travels its short dimension. This force of turning might or might not be applied in a manner to bend the metal. Most of the time, people who want to bend metal find some other way to do it. You don't say what you are trying to do, so I can't offer any advice.
