People say they worship him this way or that way. Is it really that important? He knows what you mean, right?

God gave the bible specifically to answer that question. It is not reliable to let people tell you what the bible says. Many people will make up stuff because they don't know what it says, and many will make up stuff because they wish it would not say what it says. You just have to read it for yourself.
Read a chapter of Proverbs every day. Proverbs has 31 chapters so you can keep your place by just looking at a calendar. There is no religion or nothing in Proverbs and you don't have to believe anything. Just read to find wisdom.
When you are comfortable with that, then read the bible from Romans to 2 Thessalonians over and over until you start to remember what it says. That is the part that applies to Christians.
Here is a book to help you to understand the bible. It's a free download and you can get a hard copy at any bible book store.

The founders of every religion out there are the ones who laid down the ground work and rules for how you have to pray, dress, talk, eat, marry and they all seem to think they know what God wants. And they are all different. If you go strictly by the bible as a woman you don't have many rights, you can't eat certain meat and you'd be sacrificing animals if not kids.
It seems to me if you know right from wrong and treat people with the same compassion you would like to be treated with you are on the right path. I don't think it's necessary to believe in a god based on someone else's rules and if you don't you're a bad person.
Live right, do what's right for the world, treat people right and do it because that makes you feel good is all you need.
Happy New Year!
We must serve God in the way that he wants. This is why the Bible was written, so we would have his mind on matters. His standards and principles are there for our benefit. God has full confidence that even as imperfect humans, if we put forth effort to the best of our ability, we can be obedient and serve him the way he wants to be served. It's important to serve God according to truth, his truth.
John 17:17 says: Sanctify them by means of the truth, your word is truth. So, when we put forth a sincere heartfelt effort to learn God's truth, when we pray to him for his Holy Spirit for knowledge and understanding, when we study and research his word, when we meditate on the things learn and apply Bible principles to our lives, and follow closely in his son's footsteps, then we are worshipping God the way he wants to be worshipped.
The one we must follow is Christ Jesus. John 14:6 says: I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Knowing this gives us the path to follow to truth.
John 8:32 say: and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
The truth sets us free from relying on our own independent thinking. It humbles us to come to know and understand that God is our Creator. Who would know best, what's good for us and for life.
Sorry, sentence structures may not be correct. Lol. Just trying to state the truth.
Thank you
Some persons may say: “My religion is in my heart, and God knows my heart,” so why discuss it? Because belief in the heart is only the beginning. Belief that begins in the heart and ends in the heart, going no farther, is not Christianity at all.
All Religions Have Different Ways of Worshiping One God. Some religions have gods that are believed to be indifferent to mankind. Others have vindictive gods, and yet others view their gods as benevolent. Evidently, these religions are not all speaking about the same god. Practicing religious toleration does not mean that all religions are right and beneficial and that all of them lead to an eternal happy future in endless enjoyment of the god that a person worships.
Accurate knowledge of the Bible is essential if we are to avoid the pitfall of reducing religious devotion only to what is convenient or pleasing to us. 2 Timothy 3:16,17

Think about these questions please: When you were being raised up in your parents home, could you do as you please in their home? When you left the house to go to school or work while living with your parents, could you come and go anytime you wanted? Or stay gone as long as you wanted? Did you make your own house rules in your parents house while living there, or did you have to abide by your loving parents "house rules"?
If we disobeyed our parent(s) house rules, when we were growing up living in their home, many of us would have gotten into trouble by seeing our parent(s) displeasure or worse, certain privileges would have been taken away.
These are questions that if honestly answered, will help you to see that we as humans cannot worship God in our own way. We were not granted the privilege of having our own agenda when it comes to worshipping God. We have to worship Him according to His righteous standards, principles, and laws. We have to worship Jehovah God His way, which is the best and most meaningful way of life (Proverbs 3:5-6).
We as humans were not created to be independent of Jehovah God's loving guidance and direction (Jeremiah 10:23, Psalms 17:5).

Of course you should worship God the way you want. But more importantly, you should stop and realize the Truth about God. God is not a person or saint, God is a power that no human being can paint. We must realize that the power of God is within. Don’t the scriptures say that the kingdom of God is within you, God lives in the temple of your heart. So we must go deep and realize God. True worship is becoming conscious of God's Divine presence within us all the time. That is true worship. Being in the Divine presence of the Lord, we have nothing to fear, or worry about; there will be no suffering because we realize that God is within, we realize we are nothing, God is everything. Because we believe in the myth, we don't realize the Truth.
You are so right people not God has set the rule for humans, The Bible makes this statement about that at (Ecclesiastes 8:9) All of this I have seen, and I applied my heart to every work that has been done under the sun, during the time that man has dominated man to his harm. It also says that this was not God plan, for Humans to direct their own selves, (Jeremiah 10:23) I well know, O Jehovah, that man’s way does not belong to him. It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step.
The Bible is a letter from God to direct us to his way of thinking, but we have to know and understand it from God's point of view not man's in order to benefit from it.
(John 17:3) This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.
