Can I copy a book and transfer it to a website so people can read it online, or is that illegal?

Its not called plagiarism...thats when you copy someone else's writing and say you wrote it. What you're talking about is called copyright infringement and yes its illegal. What you have to do is get the authors permission first then you can post their book online legally....ever heard of Amazon's digital lending library.
